Paul Jones Pottery - PEI

Many pottery finds remain mysteries and this work fits in that category. We hope that additional information will emerge; any information is appreciated so please let us know if you can help.

The item is clearly signed by Paul Jones, and indicates PEI as the place of creation. No date is indicated. The clay appears to be moderately grogged, which is not commonly used by beginning potters. The semi-closed form also shows good throwing skills by the potter suggesting the work is perhaps that of a skilled potter and not student work. No other items by Paul Jones have been located yet.

Gary Caroll indicated in 2021, "Here are 2 photos of a small vase I have had for many years." Thanks to Gary for both locating the work and providing the photos.

Update -- July 2025,

A comment on this blog helps to provide additional information from his daughter:
"Hi. My name is Megan Jones and I believe this vase was made by my dad, Paul Jones. He had a pottery business from around 1980 to 1982 in Gasperaux, PE where he experimented with wood fired pottery. He got his art degree in Montreal and was a teacher and later a school counselor. He returned to PEI in 2007 and lived in Sturgeon. He passed away January 2024. It is nice to see his work online."

A PEI collector Joe Martell recently located several pieces and has shared the signatures and pictures of the pieces. Thanks Joe.
